Echoes from Orion

Feedback is a process that is looped back to control a system within itself. This loop is called the feedback loop. Memory can be considered a feedback loop between past and present. Just as we are a product of our memories, they are constantly changing to reflect the color of our current state. In this way, memory is fluid.

This performance is a live collage of several audio and video tracks, which are woven together to become an emergent piece of art. A custom instrument allows me to interact with memories of my childhood through the lens of the present, creating an experience that will never be the same twice.

In the early stages of this project, the audio and visual timelines interacted in the most literal of ways: a kick drum represented by a visual flourish. But as the instrument evolved, a more abstract relationship between sight and sound became possible. Now, instead of simply illustrating the soundtrack, the visuals are an emotional score for my performance. In turn, changes made to the music lead to modifications in the video tracks. The result is a synaesthetic experience created by feedback.
